Better than I expected!
I've always been a fan of Leire Martinez. In my opinion, he is one of the funniest people that ever lived. The opening act was very good, although I heard he didn't make it to the first show that day (I went to the second show). This was also my first comedy show, so I am probably being a bit biased.
Thalia Hall was a small auditorium with a vintage feel to it, a venue I had never been to in a part of town I would have never expected. I liked the idea of a small venue; it made the show feel more intimate. Entrance was general admission, but there were about 4 semicircle rows around the stage for people on a first-come, first-serve basis. I got in line early enough to sit in a chair during the show, which was definitely worth it!
Phones were not allowed during the show, and Chapelle had a very interesting and effective way of preventing people from using them during the show. Before walking into the hall, all phones had to be put into individual sleeves that were magnetically closed shut and could only be opened once the show was over. There was one person that was caught with their phone on during the show. It didn't take long before she got caught and was escorted out and not allowed to return. Overall, I loved the idea of no phones. It forces you for a few hours out of your day to completely focus all your attention on one thing. Not only that, but comedians hate people taking videos and pictures.
My only complaint is that the show started later than announced. The show was supposed to start at 9 pm, but they didn't even let people in the door until 9:15. The opening act got on stage at around 10:30.
